After a cultural and historical immersion with The Soong Sisters, I thought I had to find another equally absorbing story so I chose Le Petit Nicolas. Akala ko it’s something heavy and serious din like The Soong Sisters. But to my delight, isa pala syang comedy film na talagang hilarious. There were scenes that I had to hold back my LOL dahil nakakahiya sa mga katabi ko sa eroplano. It would have been a loud, hearty laugh kung nasa bahay ako.
The film was an adaptation of a classic French children’s book of the same title and was shown at the 2009 Rome Film Festival. Sabi sa Wikipedia, it was a surprise hit in Europe earning 1.2 million euros at the box office in just a few days.
.
It’s the story of Nicolas, a young boy who’s an only child na nakarinig ng kwento from one of his classmates na nagkaroon ng baby brother. And he went through all sorts of trouble para lang ma-prevent yong sinabi ng classmate nya tungkol sa pagkakaroon ng kapatid.
.
The film was one very hilarious take on a child’s perspective of life. Magaling ang gumanap na Nicolas (Maxime Godart) and was ably supported by a bunch of funny kids na gumanap na mga classmates nya. Pati ang mga gumanap na tatay at nanay nya who are both Cesars winners – Kad Merad and Valerie Lemercier, respectively.
.
The film shows French brand of humor pero sakay na sakay ko dahil ito yong pelikulang walang race, creed or color na kinikilala. It could happen to any family anywhere in the world. Pati yong mga eksena sa school, kahit yong sa dinner na guest nila ang boss ng tatay ni Nicolas. Everything is so real. An excellent job from the director (Laurent Tirard).
.
Buti na lang natapos na yong film dahil kung hindi, tatawa pa rin ako ng tatawa while the other passengers are already trying to get some sleep.
