GREAT DOG STORY

My sister just sent me this and I thought I would share...Brenda

Anyone who has pets will really like this. You'll like it even if you don't and you may even decide you need one!
Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named 'Lucky.' Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they would warn their friends to not leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably, someone would forget and something would come up missing.
Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky's other favorite toys. Lucky always stashed h is finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box.
It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease....in fact ,she was just sure it was fatal.
She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders. The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her...what would happen to Lucky?

Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary's dog through and through.

If I die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand that I didn't want to leave him. The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death.
The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks.

Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully, but the little dog just drooped, whining and miserable.
Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap. Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It made Mary sad, but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed.
When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong, she couldn't move her head and her body felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter, when Mary realized the problem.

She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life. He had covered her with his love.
Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again, walking further and further together every day. It's been 12 years now and Mary is still cancer-free.. Lucky? He still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box but Mary remains his greatest treasure.
Remember....live every day to the fullest. Each minute is a blessing from God. And never forget.....the people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care for us.
If you see someone without a smile today give them one of yours! Live simply. Love seriously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God!

a spark

I’m getting tired of sitting in an office 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. I’ve been doing it for soooo long now. In fact, I’ve gone past being bored with it quite a long time ago. And now, I think I’m right on the verge of being tired watching that clock move so agonizingly slow on workdays. I think I need a change.

Since I love writing, I’m seriously thinking of shifting to the print media. Maybe I’ll write for a magazine or broadsheet. Some column about life, work, culture or anything. Maybe about OFW where I have the first-hand experience to lend credibility to whatever I’m writing. No boss, just an editor. No time in/time out, just deadlines to beat. I can sleep anytime I want and get up as late as I want. That would be glorious.

If not, I’ll probably write some stories. For movies or for television, doesn’t matter. I’ve got some crazy story ideas stored somewhere in the dark recesses of my sometimes twisted mind. I've got better plots than those stories being published in one tabloid that some of my addicque friends loves reading. I’m sure one or two of my plots will make a blockbuster film or a top-rating ‘tele-serye’. Maybe I can give the televiewers some option aside from watching rehash of Carlo Caparas novels.

Better yet, I’d love to try the broadcast media where I can do a talk show. Afterall, I’ve got a lot to say on anything - highly opinionated, in case you haven’t noticed. Might as well put it to work to my profit. But not on the molds of Boy Abunda. Entertainment talk shows are a bit trivial. I’d prefer social commentaries. Though I might easily get death threats with my sometimes uncensored tirades, specially when I’m pissed off with our politicians.

So maybe I’ll just do the news. I’ve always envied those news anchors who are always wearing nice suits, just do a 30-minute news program and earns an indecent amount of money. Plus, the image they build among the public. Heck, these people can win any public office whenever they decide to go for it. Noli de Castro, remember? People think someone who reads the news properly can also be a good public servant. Duh.

So I’ll seriously consider these choices. When? Maybe soon. I’m just waiting for the right moment. And that spark. The spark that will ignite the desire to do things instead of just dreaming about it. And oh yes, I dream a lot in case you haven’t noticed! Hahaha!

Severe ice storm warning...time for bleach

Guess this is another dull day...we are under a severe ice storm warning until tomorrow morning. Freezing rain and sleet...just lovely. I am glad that my mom works at home and will not have to travel in it! She used to work at the phone company...she had to be there no matter what! (Kind of like the postal service.) She learned a neat trick to drive in ice though. Some friends of hers used to deliver vans to Colorado. They told her they dabbed bleach on the tread of their tires (all the way around, but not on the sides) and that this would give you little tiny suction holes on your tires and you would not slide. Usually in Texas you don't get much ice...so she never really thought about it again.

That is, until two years later! She was coming home one night from work and it was so slippery that the car just slid sideways. (The car slid to the curb even at5 miles an hour.) So she remembered what the older couple had told her. She parked it, walked to the corner store, and bought some bleach. She figured if it worked, great...if not, maybe she could at least get the car back to the office. She got back to the car and used a sponge to dab the bleach on the tread. Then she pulled the car forward and dabbed it on the portion of the tire that had been on the ground.

She was astonished, she got in the car and it did not slide at all!!! She decided to go ahead and attempt to drive the 30 miles home. She had to go up this hill on the way home...scary! People with chains on their tires and in 4x4's couldn't get up the hill...they kept sliding back down. Diesels were off in the ditch, they couldn't get any traction. (The hill had already been sanded, but it was extremely slippery!) Needless to say, she got many strange looks as she headed up the hill without any sliding and safely made it down the other side. Of course, she could only go about 10 miles an hour still. Since that experience she has always kept bleach in her car if the weather was going to be icy!So your tip for the ice is bleach!

However, I am glad she is home with me and doesn't have to go anywhere now. I like it better that way...if I am bored due to the weather, I like my mom here to keep me company!

Mason Dixie's mom is having a great contest! Check it out and join in the fun!

We are going to try and figure out one...we'll see how it goes! Be creative and win the necklace! See you there!

Dreary day

The gang is restless...it is dreary, raining, and they expect ice later tonight. I wish we would get that snow, instead of the ice. It would be fun leaving our paw prints in fresh snow. Oh well, guess we will be mostly inside the next few days. UGH!That means no frisbee playing or anything. I hate not being able to play frisbee!

At least I can still bark at the post lady when she drops off the mail. That will be a little bit of fun. Maybe I will have to drag out some old toys and keep the others entertained.Yeah, right! They better watch some tv and stay out of the chips this time!

Hope you all have a great evening! Stay warm!

of faith and believing

My mom has been ill for a few days now. Konting lagnat, may sipon at konting ubo. That’s why I was monitoring her condition everyday through phone calls.

On the third day that she’s bedridden, sabi ko sa Ate ko, dalhin na sya sa hospital. I believe in doctors kasi. Unfortunately, my mother doesn’t believe in them. Unless it’s something serious, she wouldn’t go anywhere near a doctor, much more a hospital.

Instead, she’s a firm believer of faith healing. That is why her meaning of ‘manggagamot’ is not a doctor. But a faith healer instead.

Most of my brothers and sisters cling to this belief. Not only believe in it, but practice it themselves.

My eldest sister Elvira was the first to dabble in faith healing. Hindi ko alam kung saan nagsimula but as far back as I can remember, nanggagamot na sya ng may sakit using the tawas system. She also has fortune telling on the side. She ‘reads’ people’s lives – past, present and future using a deck of poker cards.

Pati ako, ilang beses na niyang hinulaan. I must admit that some of the things she said are quite impressive. Nakaka-bull’s-eye minsan. But not all the time of course. At kahit hindi ako naniniwala sa hula, kapag sinabi nyang umupo ako at huhulaan nya ako, hindi ako makatanggi. It’s not that I believe the hula. But it’s more on avoiding the insult I might cause if I blatantly reject her ‘talent’ in which she (and the rest of the family) believe in. But that’s another story.

Then another sister of mine, Emmie, got into faith healing as well. Kinarir din ang pang-gagamot. And she had a more stellar career than Ate Elvira. Sabi nila, mas may ‘third eye’ si Ate Emmie that’s why she seem to have a stronger healing power. If I’m not mistaken, the power daw comes from the Sto Nino. But her most important client is my mother.

Last November, Ate Emmie had to leave her ‘career’ dahil kinuha sya ng anak nya sa Japan. But before leaving her ‘practice’, she saw to it that her clientele will never be lost without her.

At 4pm today, nag-text ang Ate Vangie ko (kasama ni mother sa bahay) telling me that Nanay is already up and about.

Of course I’m happy to hear that. But there’s this feeling of disappointment na nadagdagan na naman ang pogi-points ng tawas while bawas-ganda points na naman ang doctor sa nangyari. Everytime she feels she was cured by that piece of tawas, she’s veering farther away from a doctor’s office. And that’s what worries me.

But how can I argue with her faith, with what she believes and what she feels. Ano mang sabihin ko, however I explain science and medicine to her, how would I change that fact that she feels well without having to face a doctor and swallowing a pill embossed with the name Pfizer?

Faith healing daw is the poor man’s only cure. But in my mother’s case it’s not the money anymore. It’s her faith. It’s what she believes in. And darn, that’s one thing hard to argue with.

Potato chip thief in the house...

You will not believe what happened today! My mom was eating a sandwich for lunch and had a can of Pringles potato chips sitting next to her plate on the coffee table. I know what you are probably thinking...but, it wasn't the dogs this time! We were innocent...it was the cat who did it. Mom was also watching a movie, so I guess the cat knew she was distracted...they jumped up on the coffee table, stuck their head in the top of the can, grabbed a chip, and ran with it!(mom didn't even get to get a chip out of it yet! She was not happy...although the cat was thrilled!)Then a little bit later, the baby cat (Cutie pie)got in the trash(again) and got a pudding cup out and got it stuck on their head...funniest thing I ever saw! Even mom had to laugh at that!

As you can see, it isn't always the dogs who run away with the food! Better watch out for those cat burglars in your house!

From 80 to 36 in a night...brrr

Our weather is very strange. Yesterday it was 80 degrees with lots of sunshine. Today it is now 36 degrees and no sunshine. Glad I got outside yesterday and played!Somehow I don't think my mom will want to go outside too much today! Like they always say, "If you don't like the weather in Texas, wait a day and it will change." So true today!

Here's to hoping the weather will warm up again quickly! Hope your weather is good wherever you are! Have a good day and I will chat later.

Before and after frisbee..can you guess which is which?

Another day of frisbee...woof woof!

Thought I would share some of my day with you...if I close my eyes will you make Prissy go away so I can play frisbee???

Wild night...

Hello everyone. We had a wild night here last night. There was someone in the neighborhood that started shooting off firecrackers around 2am. Of course, Prissy and I started barking at the tops of our lungs to alert mom and jumped smack in the middle of her. She loves us and understood; however, she was not impressed with both of us landing right on her!(...that is a lot of weight to handle when you aren't expecting it, I guess?) Needless to say, we were up more than half the night...as this went on for quite a while.Crazy thing is, we live in a decent older neighborhood, three blocks from the police station. It always amazes me how they have the rules of "no fireworks in the city limits", yet they can never seem to hear or catch them!Don't get me wrong, I really do love to watch fireworks and so does my mom, but all these homes are wood framed...not a great mix!

I really am not a wimp, but years ago one of the neighbors had some friends over and apparently they got into a fight or something. One of the neighbors "friends" (I wouldn't call them that)shot one of my neighbors in the arm. Mom was inside and thought they were shooting towards me...I was outside when it happened.Plus, she thought she heard the bullet hit the side of our house!(We never found the bullet...thank goodness for old homes with petrified wood!) I broke through the windows of the back door trying to get inside to my mom. (..there was a french door on the back door) Scared the daylights out of us both.Anyway, ever since that happened, loud noises that make a bang sound sort of scare me.

So, it will probably be a long day for my mom. Prissy and I will surely be snoozing away part of the day to catch up on our rest.Talk to all of you later!

Second edition…

Hothot : The Obama Inauguration. So what if Barack faltered a bit on his oath taking. I bet his charms never got flawed one tiny bit. Afterall, imperfections like this make him more endearing to his frenzied fans who braved the -6°C temperature in DC. At the moment, he is not just a President. He’s one hot President with one hot First Lady in Michelle. This couple is just a whiff of fresh air to the already gloomy, stale and boring American Presidency, thanks to his predecessor. I just hope he doesn’t shrink to the gigantic challenges that await him in his office. Good luck Mr. President!

Hotnot : So Ploning didn’t make it to the Oscars. That’s sad. Although we all know that it’s gonna be a tough fight and yet, Judy Ann was courageous enough to take on the challenge. Kudos to this lovely girl for trying. She might have lost the battle but hey, I still salute her. Better luck next time, Juday.

Hotnot : The World Bank putting down it’s foot against the rampant corruption behind the anomalous government projects. Ayan na naman! Ano ba? Nakakahiya na talaga kayo mga hindurupot! And the nerve, ang mga magagaling na pulitiko pa natin ang nagagalit sa World Bank. Hallllerrrr!

Hothot : My favorite Brian Joubert blazing hot on ice at the ISU European Championships in Helsinki. He wowed the crowd with his spins and fancy footwork which earned him a new personal best scrore (86.90) putting him in the lead after 39 skaters are through with the short program. I hope he gets his third European crown this year.

Hothot : Another favorite sporting event of mine is currently on-going in Melbourne. Yup, it’s the 2009 Australian Open. It’s still a treat to see Federer and Nadal on the court. Reminds me of Sampras and Agassi when the Americans were lording over the tennis circuits. But of course the Williams sisters are still very much the force to reckon with in the ladies singles. I won’t be surprised if it’s gonna be a Williams finals again.

Hotnot : Pinoy reporters, legit or otherwise, who are irresponsible enough to write that Charice Pempengco performed for Obama’s inauguration. Pwede, check your facts muna please before you mislead your readers. She sang One Moment In Time (again) in a smaller party not even attended by the new President. And that was from reliable, responsible reporters. Hmnmpptt.

Hothot : Manny Pacquiao showing Hatton and everybody else – including Arum – who’s the boss. Naiinsulto siguro si Manny na sya ngayon ang tinatawag na best pound-for-pound boxer and yet ang gusto ni Hatton eh 52% of the earnings eh sa kanya mapunta, 48 lang kay Manny. Kaya ayun, dinedma sila ni Manny. Way to go Pacman! He’s not as hot as you are.

Hotnot: Intel closing three facilities including the one in Cavite. Sad news for a few thousand employees in that plant. Surely the economic crisis is no creeping into the shores of PI. Worrying times ahead.

Sugarfoot posing by herself...

They look a little startled, huh?

Prissy & Sugarfoot

I told you previously that I would try to get pictures of Prissy with her cat Sugarfoot. Those two are very hard to get to sit still to take a photo!I was able to get a few pics of them...hope you can see them...they kept laying in the shade.

Inaguaration day is here!

It is finally here...the day millions of humans have been waiting on. My concern is that there are so many humans going to be in Washington, that the police may not have enough help. They should have gathered up all of us border collies and Australian shepherds to assist. We could keep everyone corralled where they want them to stay!If anyone were to get out of order, we are good at getting them back into place with the group...even if nibbling at their heels were required. We live to keep order in the masses! But, alas...they didn't invite the dogs.(well, maybe a few german shepherds...)

I really am glad I am not there, though...I am not too tall and wouldn't be able to see all of the festivities like I will be able to from home with my mom. We will be watching some of it on tv in the warmth of our home and munching on some food! Hope all of those people have fun and stay warm there, too!It should be exciting!

Dog's selective hearing

My mom says I have selective hearing. It always amazes her how I can pretend that I do not hear her when it is time to come in from playing; however, let her open a bag of anything that has food in it and I come running!!! I can be half asleep, outside...it doesn't matter...when I hear those bags opening, I am hot to trot. Just like I am ALWAYS ready to go when she says, "want to go bye-bye?". I am at the door in an instant!

In all fairness,I am not the only one with selective hearing. Prissy and the cats have the same problem! I think the cats are worse though, they come running if she opens anything with the can opener. I am not quite that bad!I do have a little constraint! We all feel we are entitled to eat whatever mom has! Doesn't always work out that way, but not for lack of trying on our part!(We even congregate in the doorway of the kitchen when she cooks, looking pathetic, and even giving the "poor woe is me" eyes!)

Seriously, anyone who owns a border collie/Australian shepherd knows that our hearing is outstanding. Most of the time, I hear everything going on, even mom calling me to come in...but just like children, I push the envelope until I hear that certain tone! Kind of like when you were young and your mom used your full name...you knew you had better hightail it in quick!

So,today's lesson is: Be selective with your selective hearing!Sometimes it is for your own good to listen to your mom!

Chevy looks tired of knocking at the door!

Prissy's friend...more pictures of Chevy!

Hi, we just got these pictures this morning. Chevy was a little under the weather and the doc sent him to bed! Actually, he was on medication and stuff for his leg. Say a little prayer for him!He is doing better now, though...

sinibak at scud

Recently may nakausap akong kabayan na isang contractor sa kumpanya namin. That was the first time I met him kaya nag-start ako ng mga usual questions like ‘saan ka sa atin’, ‘ilang taon ka na dito sa saudi’ and ‘ano’ng kumpanya mo’. Never did I expect na yong simpleng tanong kong pambasag lang ng silence will unleash some boiling lava from the depths of his bitter soul.

Every two years pa ang uwi kasi 2-year contract.

Sa mga hindi kasi nakaka-alam, direct employees are those directly hired by large companies like Aramco and SABIC, isama na natin ang kumpanya namin which is neither of the two pero kasing-standard din nila when it comes to salary and benefits not to mention the very generous year-end bonus.

Ang mga direct hire kasi, malalaki ang sweldo like my friend JunC na times ten ng isang contractor ang basic salary. Maganda ang benefits, malalaki ang allowance kaya nakakatira sa maayos na apartments like my friend Ega. Nakakabakasyon twice or thrice a year like my friends Irwin and Vayren, at business class pa ang plane ticket like my friend Raoul.

They can also enjoy the benefit of bringing over their families like my friend Ricky. At ke may family ka o wala, pwede kang makabili ng magarang car like my friend Matt.

Kaya sa isang lugar na masyadong talamak ang discrimination na akala ninyo sa Pinas or sa States lang nangyayari, direct employees here are ‘gods’ at ang mga kawawang contractors are mere mortals. Pag puti ang ID mo, bida ka. Pag dilaw, you’re so kawawa.

Masyadong bitter. And because of that bitterness, ako na noon lang nya nakita at nakausap, was given a bad impression of his personality.

Yon yong first time kong mag-Saudi.

But I took it all in stride. Took it as a learning experience. Tinanggap ko yong sitwasyon without turning myself into a sulking, bitching, moaning and whining fool. Pero, gumawa ako ng paraan to improve the situation.

Ayokong maging maasim in this way.

Practicing for American Idol???

Prissy & me...our day coming to a close...

Shamu (on the left) and Prissy(on the right). It has been a BEAUTIFUL day!!! Hope you all had a great one! Remember to add your pictures to our guest book at the bottom of the page so we can see you, too!

I'm not in the Sunshine state, but we have sunshine today!

Awesome, awesome day!!! We have sunshine and it is 65 degrees! Perfect frisbee weather! I have talked to some fellow bloggers from the north. I definitely feel for them! They have snow and expect more snow today! I am thankful I live in Texas!

Granted, our weather changes constantly. For the most part, though, I can play outside almost all year round! I love to play!!! Prissy and I have been outside chasing squirrels, each other, and the frisbee all day today. The cat even got gutsy and came outside with us for a little while!

I do remember one year that it snowed here in February. Of course, it wasn't cold enough to last...just on the grass and trees a little. It was very pretty, though!!! Only time I have seen snow in my lifetime. It was funny watching the other animals walking around tip-toeing on their paws! Guess they had never seen it either and didn't know what to make of it. I enjoyed it, but I still love the spring and summertime best. (People around here don't cook out and throw me their bones in the winter!)

Anyway, have a terrific day and I will catch up with you later. I have some serious playing to do!!!

ai8

Finally hindi na ako mapapag-iwanan when it comes to American Idol. Not like before na ang posting ko eh tungkol pa sa grand finals between the two Davids of season 7 samantalang pukpukan na sa audition ang mga contestants sa season 8.

This time, medyo updated na ako (and all of us in the middle east na AI fans), thanks to MBC who got the rights to show AI8 almost real-time. Late pa rin by almost a week but hey, that’s a whole lot better than a full season behind di ba.

I saw the pilot telecast last night and I was ecstatic that they (MBC4) even showed the full 2-hour episode. Not like before na luma na nga kinakatay-katay pa ng Dubai One to one-hour episodes lang per week.

Before it started, may mga nababasa na akong press release na porke marami raw changes sa program. One is the addition of another female judge, Kara DioGuardi. Unfortunately, tingin ko sa first episode, she didn’t bring anything new to the program except for that lovely face.

Sa akin lang, she’s just a younger Paula Abdul. Walang pinag-iba ang mga assessment at comments nya from Paula and most of the times even Randy. All three of them are so lame. Nako-kornihan ako sa mga comments nila, trying to be so polite kahit pa ang kaharap nilang contestant eh kasipa-sipa right on their hinnys.

Kaya gusto ko si Simon who, for me, is the only one who brings sanity to this sometimes crazy show. It was only Simon who kicks their butts and wake them up from their delusion of stardom. Sabihin nang ascerbic, contemptuous at masyadong in-your-face ang mga comments nya but at least he’s keeping it real.

What happened? Parang nawala ang asim nya sa pagko-comment, he was even smiling most of the time and said yes to some singers who, if it were the first seven season auditions, eh siguradong nilait na nya. Is this one of those changes na sinasabi? Maybe.

Or maybe Paula Godspeed has got something to do with it. Paula who? She’s one of the hopefuls in the 2005 auditions who got rejected and later on committed suicide (reportedly) in November 2008 sa harap mismo ng bahay ni Paula Abdul. Talk about desperation huh. Some say na nakatikim daw ng panglalait during the audition kaya nagpakamatay. So she was in pain for 3 years? What lengths people would go just to get famous.

Kaya ba nag-tone down si Simon? Because of some guilty conscience. Well, nakakapanibago. Sana wag ganito all throughout this season. Boring.

Cats are crazy!

I wasn't decided on what to write today, until I started noticing the cat. She had jumped into my owner's lap while she was on the computer. My owner was playing a game on line (Yahoo-Bouncing Balls) and the cat started swatting at the screen and kept trying to grab the pointer! Don't cats know that you can't reach through that screen??? Duh!

Now don't get me wrong...I have been known to jump my big self up into her lap while they are on the computer, too. However, I have NEVER swatted at the screen! Usually I am just wanting a hug, or more water, or something like that....or it is time for them to stop working and come play with me!! Frisbee time!!! (Too cold for that today...I wish it were Spring!!!)

Anyway, cats sure are funny. One minute they ignore you, the next they are trying to grab your tail, and now add swatting at the computer screen! I just don't understand cats!Do you?

I did notice online today a place I would like to go visit...they have a dog beach! Check out the cute photos at this site: "http://www.sandiegodogbeach.com/"..be sure and tell them Shamu @ "http://uought2badog.blogspot.com/" sent you!

Too cold to type!!!

My owner says it is too cold to type today! I think the weather is fine...of course, I have fur. I don't understand the rituals humans go through just to go outside in the cold...I mean, I don't put on any extra clothing, why do they have to??? It is funny seeing them all bundled up...makes it a little harder for them to play, if you ask me! I prefer to wear the fur God gave me...no scarves for me anymore!

Did I mention that when my owner saw my picture for the first time, I had a scarf on? The ladies at the shelter had put one on me. First and last time I wore one. Now, I don't know if that is the reason my owner picked me, but I am glad she did! I am also glad she doesn't dress me up in those anymore! Not my thing, however I am fine if others want to do that. I think I look pretty good without anything added! What do you think???

Oh, well...have a good evening and try to stay warm everyone!

NOKIA SECRET CODES

Nokia Secret Codes/Hacks :
These codes for the Nokia series of phones provide some interesting information for users, they also unlock some hidden functions. These codes are often reffered to as "Nokia Secret Codes" or "Nokia Hacks". Use the codes at your own risk, not all Nokia phones support all codes, I have tried to split them into these groups.

These 3 codes work on 90% of Nokia phones;

*#06# Display the IMEI (Standard GSM command, works on all phones)
*#0000# Display the firmware version and date
*#92702689# Here you can view the S/N and the IMEI as well as the life timer (newer models). The date the phone left the factory and the date it was purchased. If your phone has been repaired the date of the repair is also visible. You will need to turn the phone off to exit this menu. Newer phones simply require you to press ok.

The following codes are specific to older series 40 phones; (Entering the following codes will restart the phone)

*4720# Cctivates Half Rate, Half Rate is 5.6kbit/s and uses half the bandwidth at the cost of call quality. Network operators often activate half rate on overloaded towers during peak times to save costs.
#4720# Deactivates Half Rate
*3370# Activates Enhanced Full Rate, EFT attempts to match wire quality. The calls are 12.2kbit/s and are not supported by all operators. It is compatibale with the hightest AMR mode.
#3370# Deactivates Enhanced Full Rate
*#746085685# (*#sim0clock#) Display the SIM clock status

The following codes are phone specific or phase related;

*#7220# Activate the GPRS PCCCH support (Packet Common Control Channel)
*#7230# Deactivate the GPRS PCCCH support
*#7760# Display the manufacturing serial number

This only works on the 3310 and 3330;

*#67705646# Clear the operator logo, the logo will be reset to the default network operator logo.

The following codes work on newer series 40 & series 60/80 phones;

*#2820# Display the Bluetooth MAC address (Phone must have a built in bluetooth adapter)
*#7370925538# Reset the mobile wallet (Phone must have the mobile wallet feature)
*#7370# Soft-format the memory (Symbian)
*#7780# Reset to factory defaults, confirmation required (also known has a Hard-format), all phone contents will be wiped clean including contacts and smses if they are stored on the phone

Chevy-Prissy's friend

Speaking of spoiled...this is Prissy's friend, Chevy. Actually it is my owner's friend, Joyce's dog. Prissy has met them and spent a few days with them. Check out this cute bed!!! Joyce made this from a bunk bed she got and cut it down to Chevy's size. Too cool!!! Wish we had beds like he does!

I really am a hotdog....jalapeno dog, that is!

I was thinking about the different foods that I like to eat and anything hot is on my list!Okay, I do have to eat dog food most of the time...but, sometimes I can get my owner to give me other things. My favorite is pizza!!! My owner ordered pizza when I was younger, and I kept trying to get at the box for a piece. Finally, they gave in and gave me a little piece. YUM!!! Well, the next time they ordered it, they were trying to deter me from eating it...this one had jalapenos on it. They thought that it would not set well with my tummy. They were wrong!!! My love of hot foods was born!

Now, I will eat anything hot(including tacos w/hotsauce). Pizza is still my favorite, but with the economy, I don't get that often. Another thing I really like, that my owner could not believe, is sour crout and weiners! I love the sour crout! Don't know if I am spelling that correctly???If not, forgive me...I AM a dog!

Of course, I am spoiled! However, I am not as spoiled as my owner's grandmother's dog was. She would get up every morning and cook them a real breakfast! Bacon, eggs, and biscuits! Now they had a great life!!! I have a great life, too...but I don't get real breakfasts every morning! Every once in a while I will get breakfasts like that, but not every day. Now, if I could just get my owner to do that everyday...wouldn't that be fantastic??!!!

Pet friendly theater is back!

If you are in Texas, there is one place you ought to visit. Those of you old enough will remember the old drive-in theaters. Well, there is a (new) drive-in theater in Ennis, TX(that is about 30 miles outside of Dallas). Actually, it has been there several years now. You can bring your pets with you!!! (Okay, I couldn't get in because I would bark at everyone non-stop.) However, if you are a well behaved pet, you are more than welcome here!

Yes, it still has the speakers you can put on the windows! If you prefer high-tech, tune in to your car speakers. You can also play putt-putt out front before the movie begins. It is a great experience!

Check them out here:

Enjoy your day!

hotnothot 1

In previous postings, I usually dip my fingers on current events, giving my two-cents worth on the issues and call it ‘sawsaw’. Well, since it’s new year, let me change my ways. Or at least, let me change my vocab and make it more chic hehehe…

Without being so paris hiltony, let me call these commentaries hothot and hotnot. Here’s what I mean:

Hothot : My favorite Leah Salonga using the ‘F’ word in her multiply account! It was soooo cool! Leah, the ever-prim and proper, ultra-classy queen of theater/stage apparently lost her cool on the golf course mauling issue between a father and son politician versus a team of elderly father and teen-age son. She was obviously infuriated by the event and, much to her chagrin, exploded into a barrage of statements that could have shocked even her colorful PETA mentor Zenaida Amador. I almost fell off my chair when I read her comments. Unfortunately when i revisited her site to get the link, it's gone! Apparently she realized she should have not posted it. Darn. It was such a treat for me. (here's her link anyways... http://bigsis222.multiply.com/journal)

Hotnot : Some political pundits are talking of bringing back the death penalty because of the Alabang Boys issue. Ow com’n people! How many more times would this issue be discussed as if there is no other solution left to explore? I thought you have far more creative and inventive minds to counter the drug issue. Besides, we all know that it’s not the penalty they are worried about. They are untouchables so they don’t even bother worrying on being caught! As for the Alabang Boys, well I wouldn’t be surprised if after the grandstanding of most people involved in this issue has waned, the three will prowl the streets of Ayala Alabang again, freely. Hmmpp.

Hotnot : The siege of Gaza. No matter what your political color is, no matter what your religious belief is, I still don’t believe it’s reason enough to kill innocent children, women and the elderly. And it goes the same to all the merciless and senseless killings around the world. It always breaks my heart to see a life being snapped out by violence. It is not right. It never will be no matter what the reason.

Hothot : Manny slugging out his next opponent either in Wembley Arena or Madison Square Garden. That would be hot. Reportedly, these two venues are being considered to stage the next Pacquiao fight. They probably realized they’re missing out on some serious cash by letting all the fights stay in Vegas. And by serious cash I mean some 70 to 80 million green bucks in profit for a one-night, 2 to 3 hour fight at the most!

Hotnot : Technocrats and know-it-all pretenders again predicting the increase in price of that ever-precious rice. I don’t know what these people want the poor Filipino masses want to do – just die in misery? If you can’t say anything nice, then just shut the hell up. Look at the panic you created when you said that there will be massive rice shortage a few months back! Which turned out to be just another ploy to throw the poor Pinoys to the murky depths of despair. And here you go again. Cruel, heartless SOBs!

Okay, I’m turning hotnot here so I’ll just leave it at that. But believe me, I’ll be back for more. As the title says, this is just the first.

Honest mom, I wasn't in the trash!!!

Cutie Pie got caught! oops!

Dogs know things people don't...listen to them!

Good morning! Okay, for those of you who do not own a dog, this may sound a bit crazy. For those of you who do own dogs....you already know this. (...or should)

Dogs know things about other people that their owners don't or cannot visibly see! My owner has learned to listen to me...I trained them well. When I bark at people, there are different ways I bark. There is the "I see you" bark...kind of non-threatening bark and tail wagging. Similar to a "hello" in human language. However, I have another bark that means, "danger"! Continuous growl, No tail is wagging and hair on my back is raised! This really means, I do not like this person, there is a very good reason for it, and get away from them quickly!!!

Now, I cannot speak English...so listen to me when I bark. My owner has found out that when I give those types of danger barks, even if the person appears friendly, or is known by my owner, eventually she will find out some reason why I warned them. (whether it is a person on drugs, has aggression issues, or other things) Now she listens up front, you should, too! Don't mistake the facts, even if a person does not like dogs(we still like them), or is afraid of dogs(we still like people who are afraid of us), this does not affect the dogs knowledge. We are right on...no matter what! Trust our instincts!Listen to your dog next time!

Animals as Friends: Imir and Stassi,rottweiler-family in photos

Animals as Friends: Imir and Stassi,rottweiler-family in photos

I thought I would add this link for my readers...since Prissy is part rottweiler. She does look simular to these cute puppies. She was about 3 or 4 months old when she strolled onto our property. Of course, I am a sucker for animals...so needless to say, she is still with us...until her new adoptive dad comes and picks her up, anyway. She will then be moving to Missouri with him. She will also be taking "her" cat, "Sugar Foot" with her. I will try to get them to get together for a photo before that happens and share it with you.

Spydog at your service

I must admit I am a very nosy dog. I spy on everything going on in my neighborhood and in my house. Don't even mention when I get to go for rides!(I live to bark at everyone) I am very persistent in letting my owner know if someone has done something wrong...like Prissy or the cat. I immediately go to her and give kisses, grab her hand, or jump in her lap...whatever it takes. I feel it is my job to make sure no animal gets away with things I didn't, or can't, get away with. You know...like getting into the trash, knocking things over, etc. Anyway, if you are a nosy dog, too...leave me a message and share your story!

Weekend fun!

Hello, everyone~TGIF!!! I am having a blast playing outside! Little windy, but helps my frisbees go further! I have been checking out some websites I want to share with you soon. One is a rescue place here in TX. I know about being in a shelter all too well! My owner got me from a shelter about 6 or 7 years ago. The shelter people actually gave me my name, "Shamu", because of how much food I ate even back then! (My owner decided to keep that name, she thought it was appropriate, too.) I suppose it fits in other ways; I am fun to watch, I play frisbee(...okay, not in the water like the other Shamu), and I still eat alot! Of course, Prissy is about to catch up with me on the eating part! Anyway, as soon as I receive the okay, I am going to add a link to the rescue site. Check them out and help if you can. Us mixed breeds are really terrific dogs!

the good samaritan

just this week an e-mail circulated among pinoys telling the story of a pinoy salesclerk in one of the bigger home furnishing stores in riyadh. sabi sa kwento, may isang babaeng arabyana raw na nahulog ang bag and the pinoy clerk helped the lady to gather her things. ang masama, the arabyana claimed daw na nawawalan sya ng 3,500 riyals. and it appread na tinuturo si kabayang pinoy na kumuha dahil sya lang naman ang tumulong sa pag-pulot ng mga gamit ng babae.
.
to scape embarassment daw at nang hindi na lumaki ang gulo, nanghingi na lang daw ng tulong si kabayan sa mga kapwa-pinoy (siguro mga kasama sa trabaho) at binayaran na lang daw yong 3,500 riyals na hinahanap noong babae. but the story didn't end there. what's worse, he got sacked by his employer. ang reason daw nong kumpanya, if he wasn't guilty, paano nya mababayaran yong amount na sinabi nong babae.
.
eto yong kaso ng tumulong ka na, ikaw pa ang napa-sama. obviously, may modus operandi yong babae. and the poor pinoy fell victim. ang masakit lang, mali ang naging diskarte ni kabayan in handling the situation. he could have stood by his innocence, kahit hubaran pa sya at silipin ang kasingit-singitan nya kung may makikita ngang 3,500 riyals sa kanya. kaya sa ginawa nya, i can't blame the company for casting doubt on his integrity. though i find terminating him is way, way overboard.
.
a couple of weeks ago, may nabasa naman ako sa online news that a person (can't remember kung babae o lalake yong nasa balita) got sued by his/her own bestfriend for pulling him/her out of a car crash. ang initial reaction ko - what the hell?...
.
as i read through the article, may law pala sa states (dunno if it applies to the entire us territory or just a local ruling) na hindi mo pwedeng galawin ang isang victim ng car crash. the law is based on medical fact that any person who had broken limbs from a fall or a car crash can possibly sustain worse or even life-threatening injuries if moved by an inexperienced medical personnel. that is why, instead na nakatulong ka, naging cause ka pa ng mas grabeng pinsala sa tinulungan mo.
.
valid as it may be, i still find the ruling a bit bothering. paano kung isang taong mahal mo ang naipit sa isang kotse? would you try to pull him/her out of the wreckage or would you just ignore the outstretched hand begging for help dahil takot kang makasuhan later on? and what if the car explodes into a huge ball of fire? hindi ba't mas malaking dagok ng konsensya if you didn't pull him/her out of that car? isn't it better to have him/her still around, even on a wheelchair rather than him/her ending as a charred body?
.
in both cases, isa lang ang kinakalungkot ko. that the basic goodness of human nature - the instinct to extend a helping hand, is being defeated by some evil forces na tao rin ang gumawa. that law sucks. and that scheming lady sucks. ngayon, magse-second thought na ako whenever i'm confronted with a situation where i have to bring out the good samaritan in me. masakit nito, baka hindi na good samaritan ang lumabas. coz simply by having second thought, the help could be a bit late.

My dog is smarter than yours

Okay, this dog makes me look very bad!I don't have this many toys...but you have to admit he IS smart!

Daily reminders:

My owner got this in the e-mail from her mom this morning...thought you would enjoy it. Remember that your dog or pet loves you dearly, too!Give everyone an extra hug today!

"This should probably be taped to your bathroom mirror where one could read it every day. You may not realize it, but it's true.

1. There are at least two people in this world
that you would die for.

2. At least 15 people in this world
love you in some way.

3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you
is because they want to be just like you.

4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone,
even if they don't like you.

5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you
before they go to sleep.

6. You mean the world to someone.

7. You are special and unique.

8. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.

9. When you make the biggest mistake ever,
something good comes from it.

10. When you think the world has turned its back on you
take another look.

11. Always remember the compliments you received.
Forget about the rude remarks.

And always remember....
when life hands you Lemons,
ask for Sugar and call me over!

Good friends are like stars.
You don't always see them,
But you know they are always there.

'Whenever God Closes One Door He Always Opens Another, Even Though
Sometimes It's Hell in the Hallway'

I would rather have one rose and a kind word from a friend while I'm here
than a whole truckload when I'm gone.

Happiness keeps You Sweet,
Trials keep You Strong,
Sorrows keep You Human,
Life keeps You Humble,
Success keeps You Glowing,
But Only
God keeps You Going"

Great day today...

Sorry so late to post. I had my owner sign up for some blog sharing space. She signed up with Blog Explosion, so once it is active, more pet owners will see my blog! I will also share some blogs with you on my site that are interesting from there! I can't wait!!! Looked like some pretty interesting ones were on there.

Today is a pretty nice day. Still a little cold, but I will get to go outside and play frisbee later. No rain today...woohoo!!! I just love to show off in front of the neighbor's german shepherd. He doesn't get to play very much. His owner doesn't really play anything with him. He is always at the fence watching us. We have this little game we play together, Prissy is even joining me now. We bark at each other and then start racing down the fenceline. I have an advantage, though...nothing is in my way to the back fence! He, unfortunately, runs smack into a little building and can't go all the way back. Tickles me every time we run...you think he would learn that I win everytime.

Well, have to run outside for now...almost time for the mail lady and you know I can't miss barking at them! Have a great day and check back often. If you have any suggestions for my sight, things you would like to see, questions, or comments, feel free to leave them!
