1933-2009
with the passing of corazon 'cory' aquino, philippines and the world as a whole, has just lost one of it's most iconic presidents.
.
her kind, bespectacled face was the face of democracy that offered hope for millions of filipinos. she was the moving force that overthrew an age-old authoritarian rule. she was the reason why people power became a worldwide phenomenon in the political arena. she became the first woman president in asia. she showed everyone that yellow doesn't mean weakness when she survived 7 coup attempts during her rule. and the list goes on and on and on....
quite an achievement for a mild-mannered housewife whose french literature diploma is just an undeniable stamp of her upper-crust pedigree. whose political exposure was only by being the wife of the prominent ninoy. and whose sole source of strenght is nothing but her rosary and the deepest of prayers.
the legacy of this extraordinary lady should forever be etched in the halls of philippines' politics. and the world.
rest in peace, madam. and may you have a joyful reunion with ninoy.
