dollar! dollar!

i once read a good article about work and vocation. in case na hindi ninyo to nabasa , the article basically says that - there is a big difference between doing what you "have to do" than what you "want to do". and after reading it, ano pa ang masasabi ko - di GUILTY! aren't we all? di ba't lahat tayo ngayon is "working" rather than having a vocation?

bakit? for so many reasons... na iisa lang naman ang common denominator - dahil hindi tayo selfish na mga tao. we have our responsibilities, not only to ourselves but most importantly to our families. that's why we chose work and the security it brings rather than pursuing our own volition which is so uncertain, failure means busting the chance for a decent life not only for ourselves but for our loved ones as well.

in a progressive country like america, i'd take this as a good nudge to promote self-conciousness. yong mga tipong I, ME, Myself ang line of thinking ng mga tao. but in a poverty-stricken philippines, kawawa naman ang mga pamilyang umaasa na makaahon sa hirap kung ang inaasahan nilang anak, kapatid o ama ay nag-resign sa trabaho sa saudi to try and become a singer, artista, (which most of us secretly wish was our career - o huwag tumanggi!) or, in my case, pursue a career in journalism where success is so subjective and rare.

tama ang author nong article in all accounts. i'd probably die wondering how good i might have been doing the news anchor on tv or would i have been close enough to john grisham or even ricardo lo. but at the end of the day (no 1 overused phrase in the world yan), i did make some lives comfortable, if not happy. and i took happiness from that too. now wouldn't that be more sublime?

reaction lang po ng isang taong laging bored sa work because it wasn't his "calling" but he had to succumb to the commercial exchange of labor and money!
