Calendar March 2009

pelikula walang kwenta

On my flight to manila last Thursday, may ilang bagong films sa Video On Demand programs ng Qatar Airways. And so right after dinner was served, I planned on watching Wall-E or the Duchess but then I opted for Vicky Cristina Barcelona instead. Sabi ko, I should see if Penelope really deserved the Best Supporting Actress trophy she won in the Oscars.

And did she? Well, hindi para sa akin. It only proved that lobbying is what determines the winner, not the performance.
.
Okay, Penelope did a great job in bringing into the screen Maria Elena, the fiery, passionate and a bit cranky artist ex-wife of Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem).

And the movie as a whole? Walang kwenta. I think this is an egotistical trip of Woody Allen na sa tingin ko is living out his fantasies via this film. Ano ba ang maganda sa istorya ng dalawang New Yorkers (Vicky portrayed by Rebecca Hall and Cristina by Scarlett Johansson) who went to Barcelona for a vacation and jumped into bed with the same man (Juan Antonio) they’ve just briefly met? Tapos nandyan pa pala ang may pagka-luka-lukang asawa na si Maria Elena?

So the very much virile Juan Antonio (actually Javier fit the role to a T) had a blast nong magkasama na sila sa bahay ni Maria Elena and his new amore Cristina. Biruin mo yon, two ladies at the same time. At meron pang eksenang may lesbianism dahil si Cristina at si Maria Elena are kissing suggesting that the guy in the story just got sooo lucky! Hindi na ako mag-e-elaborate dahil pang-General Patronage ang blog ko noh!

And get this - nong parehong mawala ang dalawa (Maria Elena and Cristina) sa buhay nya (Juan Antonio) eh nandiyan pa at naghihintay ang newly-wed na si Vicky who is more than willing na magtaksil sa asawa nya just to be in bed with him. O di ba naman at napaka-swerte nitong si Juan Antonio?

Darn, Woody might be a respected film-maker but I just don’t see the essence of this film. Kwentong walang kwenta. Basta, the way I see it is that Woody has these fantasies of cavorting with beautiful women na hindi nya magawa sa totoong buhay since he left the beautiful Mia Farrow for the younger but not a stunner na adopted daughter pa mandin nilang si Soon-Yi. And this film was his way of venting his frustration sa hindi na nya kaya at pwedeng gawin.

Sayang lang ang oras ko. Feeling ko talaga nabiktima lang ako ng ego-tripping ni Woody. I should have stuck to my original choice na Wall-E. O kaya yong the Duchess. Hmmpppttt…

No, no, no....not now!

Boring, boring...mom is training for her new job, so we aren't playing frisbee. We tried kisses and hugs, but she said, "...not now". So, Prissy and I are entertaining ourselves outside, by chasing anything moving, and barking at all of the people on the street. They are fixing up the rental across the street from us...we have been barking at him all day long. He hasn't been answering us and has totally ignored our barks. I don't understand why he wasn't scared of us? Maybe because we are behind a fence?

Anyway, time for dinner...just wanted to drop a few lines to my pals and wish you all a happy evening!

Pizza party

Today is a special day for us...mom ordered pizza for everybody. You would have thought that she had set down a steak. We haven't had pizza in a long time and Prissy's dad paid for us to get pizza as a special treat. We all looked like the fish do when you throw food into the water for them to eat....we swarmed the box! Mom gave each of us a slice... okay Prissy and I got more than one slice...but the cats only got one. (Prissy and I are bigger, so we deserved more, in my opinion.) It was our favorite...hamburger and cheese. Mom didn't get all the veggies since we were going to eat some. I feel very lucky to have gotten pizza today, since I acted so nutty last night.

Did I mention that we got put in bed early last night? Well, we did a bad thing...according to mom...I think it is still debatable. Prissy is always trying to eat my, and everyone else's food, in the house before she eats her own. She got into a little of my food one too many times and I growled at her. She growled back at me, so we kind of tussled...til mom yelled at us to stop and get in our beds! She said that she wasn't going to tolerate that kind of behavior from us...whatever that meant??? I was just trying to let Prissy know I was tired of her stealing my food...so I don't know what the big deal was. Anyway, we got put in bed early. We have been super good today and didn't fight at all over the pizza either! Plus we are giving mom kisses and hugs all day...cause we don't want to go to bed early tonight! Woof Woof

darn oscars

well i got 2 out of five!!! it's worse than my score last year! darn oscars...

they gave the best actress trophy to kate winslet instead of meryl
best actor to sean penn instead of my guess mickey rourke (though i'm happy with this one)
best supporting actor to heath as i predicted
best supporting actress to penelope instead of viola
and best picture to slumdog which i said was not my choice, but again sentiments ruled the voting members as i predicted.

ah well... darn oscars

McElway Basketball Story

Okay, this has nothing to do with dogs....well maybe a story about a perceived "underdog". This was sent to my mom by her sis and we just had to show it to everyone! Someone had faith in the underdog and look what happened. Awesome results!

See what happens when you type your name in the search bar
Gewoon een lolletje tussendoor type je naam in en kijk wat er gebeurt Amaztype

last minute predictions

with barely 4 hours to go before the oscar awards are announced, i thought of testing my powers again. last year i got 3 out of 5 correct guesses(http://dantespeaks.blogspot.com/2008/02/results.html). this year, let me see if my score improves.
.
and because i've seen just a couple of the oscar-nominated films, most of these predictions are again based on sentiments and what i feel the voting members of the academy thinks of the films and performances this year.
.
here we go...
.
Best Picture
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon
Milk
The Reader
Slumdog Millionaire
.
my guess : Slumdog Millionaire despite my fearless statements in my review that i didn't like the cinematic embellishments that killed a rather pure and wonderful story. but looking at the bunch, i don't think the other four nominees offer anything better. Benjamin Button's story line is far from epic while Frost/Nixon maybe a more serious material but I'm not sure if it can pull off any fight against the sentiment Slumdog has already created among the movie buffs.
.
Best Actor
Richard Jenkins (for The Visitor)
Frank Langella (for Frost/Nixon)
Sean Penn (for Milk)
Brad Pitt (for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button)
Mickey Rourke (for The Wrestler)
.
my guess : Mickey Rourke. although i don't like this guy. he may have landed a very good role and acted well on it but i still don't like his attitude. he's arrogant, fresh and seem to be stuck in his days of drinking and going down the drain. heck, he doesn't even care to look fresh or clean when receiving awards onstage! i do hope Sean Penn gets the trophy. but knowing the oscars, they love comeback kids like Mickey. suckers.
.
Best Actress
Anne Hathaway (for Rachel Getting Married)
Angelina Jolie (for Changeling)
Melissa Leo (for Frozen River)
Meryl Streep (for Doubt)
Kate Winslet (for The Reader)
.
my bet: Meryl Streep. i said bet instead of guess because i've watched how this superwoman breathed life into the role (like what she always does). pundits say Kate is gonna win but i hope they are wrong. if the statuette doesn't go to Meryl this year, they are doing the lady a great injustice. Anne and Angelina should just be thankful they got nominated. and Melissa? don't ask me, this is the first time i've heard of her!
.
Best Supporting Actor
Josh Brolin (for Milk)
Robert Downey Jr (for Tropic Thunder)
Philip Seymour-Hoffman (for Doubt)
Heath Ledger (for The Dark Knight)
Michael Shannon (for Revolutionary Road)
.
my guess : Heath Ledger. again, oscar-voting members have this tendency to be sentimental. for that, they will give Heath a posthumous honor. but at the risk of sounding irreverent to Heath's memory, i really feel Philip should win the award. sentiments should have nothing to do with it. it's an acting award afterall. ah well...
.
Best Supporting Actress
Amy Adams (for Doubt)
Penelope Cruz (for Vicky Cristina Barcelona)
Viola Davis (for Doubt)
Taraji Henson (for Benjamin Button)
Marisa Tomei (for The Wrestler)
.
my bet: Viola Davis. i would really love to see this lady being awarded for a work that is so heartfelt, intense and genuine. although rumors have it that Penelope has the edge. if she wins, then lobbying really plays a great deal of role in these awards.
.
there you go. by early morning tomorrow, i will see how my guessing game turned out.

Swimming with two of the Four Muskateers...

Since we do not have swimming weather yet, thought I would share our buddies site with you. This is Joyce and Cody having fun at the swimming pool. Makes us want to go swimming! But, we don't have a pool like this around here..looks like a lot of fun, though!

Prissy is finally free at last!!!

Woo hoo!!! Prissy is back to normal now!No more separation required!! (For those of you who didn't see previous posts...Prissy has been in heat and we had to stay separated. Mom didn't want puppies.) Now we are back to chasing the neighbor's dog up and down the fence line!I didn't know I actually missed the little dickens so much...don't tell her that, though!~

We have barked at the mail lady, chased the neighbor's dogs (from our side of the fence), eaten, barked some more, eaten some more, chased the cats....oh, what a glorious day it has been!!! Hope you are having a great day where you are, too!

PS: Mom is very happy, too...no more whining from us!

Pampering Pets Texas Style!

This is a great idea!If there were enough people in my area who would do this, it would be a great business to start! I live outside Dallas a little, so most people here do their own pampering of their pets. But, check this site out....too cool! This would work great for me...since I am not too fond of being around strangers...

Don't forget to vote! Friday

Hey guys, don't forget to go by Mason Dixie's site and vote for your favorite award design! I already cast my ballot, now it's your turn!

No curbside kissing allowed...

Wonder if you can take your pets and kiss them goodbye at the station? They aren't on the sign...

Maybe I should show this sign to Prissy about no kissing?( She doesn't know what a curb is... Bricks could be a curb for all she knows!) Then I would have to get my mom to change my main picture on my blog. Oh well, guess I won't tell her...for now.

Love the mail lady today!

Oh boy, oh boy! The mail lady was nice to us today...even though I still barked at her arrival. She brought us a package from Prissy's dad with all kinds of goodies in it! Woof woof!!!!

We got a new leash...been needing another one since Prissy chewed through our old ones. Plus we got a chili flavored Slim Jim apiece! (kind of like a beef jerky) He also sent us some of our favorite chewing gum...spearmint flavored. Did I mention that we love gum? If not....we do!!! Now if mom will just keep those darn cats out of the way, so we can eat our Slim Jim's in peace, it will be a perfect day! Actually, we do share it with the cats...so don't feel too sorry for them.(But, we do not share our gum! They will have to use something else to get their minty fresh breath!)

It is a beautiful day today, so I am going to run play some frisbee. It is supposed to get colder again tomorrow and you know mom doesn't play frisbee if it gets too cold outside. Hope you all have a great evening!

Real Brands: Vivienne Tam Fall 2008

Last year, Hong Kong Disneyland asked Vivienne Tam (a native daughter)
to design New Year's outfits for Minnie and Mickey in celebration of the Year of the Rat.
Human versions of the celebrity mouse look were unveiled on the Fall runway.

Stardoll didn't release those outfits, so I thought it would be great
to have them here at Seen on Stardoll.

And special thanks to Bubusor who helped with the pics ;)
